- Zero-Turn Mower
This is my first Zero Turn Mower. I researched several competitors, and settled on the Cub Cadet ZT2 60. WOW, amazing machine. I had first settled on an orange brand, but shange my mind. Here's why. The CC has a sturdier frame, a better, more solidly built deck mechanism, a more comfortable seat, a better and beefier steering controller set, and from what I hear, the CC is much quieter. Compared to the consumer green brand, the green brand looks and feels like a toy. The red brand was equally inferior in each of the areas that I evaluated. Of course, as we progress into commercial machines, there are some fine offerings. That said, the CC is clearly the star of its class, and shares many of the features found on machines designed to be used all day, every day. Last is the cut quality, which I found to be amazing. The CC has a deck and discharge system that results in more cuts on each blade of grass. It simply cuts the grass to a fine mulch, and leaves very few clippings. It also cuts and tracks nicely, leaving a smooth, even surface. As I stated before, WOW.
I bought this mower after tons of research of many zeroturns. It is a mowing machine. Are there other mowers maybe built a little better? Sure , but not much that I have seen can compare to quality vs price. When looking for a mower you have to think about 2 things: 1 how much are you going to mow and do you really need to buy a more expensive mower to do the same job. It took me a month and a half to decide and I always came back to this mower.
I wanted the lap bar and I wanted a 60” deck. I also wanted At least 2800 transmissions. So I had to break it down from there. I had narrowed it down to three mowers but they were all at least $1000 to $2000 more in price. This mower also comes with the Kawasaki motor which all other mowers is an added feature you have to pay more for.
I mow around 2 acres and this mower eats it up fast. I actually mowed the neighbors lawn which used to take me almost an hour in 15 minutes.
One thing I would recommend is buy from a dealer or directly from cub cadet. If you have any issues you can directly deal with them.
Mine has a little rust spot in the weld on the back of the chassis by the motor. Probably from sitting outside the store from where I bought it. I didn’t buy from a dealer in my area because the dealer near me didn’t want to talk to me unless I was buying the $7000 mower. I didn’t buy directly from cub cadet because I needed the mower by the next day.
I guess time will tell about this mower but so far I LOVE it. I’m like a kid in a candy store. The only thing I don’t like is I can’t wait for the grass or grow so I can mow again.
Read all the reviews you want to but someone always and I mean always has something they don’t like about something.
Compare apples to apples and compare what you get for what your willing to pay. Then that’s the one you need to purchase.
Trust me when I say you won’t be sorry for purchasing this mower.
I received this mower, cub cadet, approximately 6 weeks ago. It was delivered and in excellent condition. The delivery person showed all the items to me. This lawn mower is fabulous for my 2.5 acre, with very rough yard. Cuts mowing time by 1/3
I'm about two months with this thing and so far so good. A few issues though.
1. The pedal to lift the mower is set very high and is quite a heavy push. If you are reasonably tall, when you try to lift your leg to press the pedal your knee hits the handles. You have to twist your leg around to be able to reach the pedal. Yes there is a second hole to lower it but its not nearly enough. That pedal is something you should be able to get to very quickly and easily. We call that the "Oh Shoot" pedal.
2. This should have a fuel level indicator. To me this is a silly oversight from CC. Even just having a gauge on the cap would have been better than nothing. Literally nothing. Ideally something you can quickly glance at while mowing. I cant tell you how many times we've run out of gas in the middle of the field. You just simply have no clue how much gas you have until you run out. The tank is opaque white and I'm guessing you're supposed to be able to look at the tank and see the level? Well you cant. The tank is too opaque to see anything in there.
3. Replacement mower blades are non existent. This is a real setback. Even on the Cub cadet parts diagram it shows as a "discontinued part" and doesn't give you any replacement options. None of their major dealers (Tractor Supply nor Home Depot carry them). I finally had to cross reference many MANY different part numbers and placed an order for what I hope are the right blades direct from Cub Cadet.
4. I wish this had some kind of suspension. At least seat suspension. I may buy an aftermarket seat for this. I would have gladly paid $50 more for seat suspension.
A few Compliments
1. The headlights are FANTASTIC. Seriously fantastic. You don't realize how valuable this is until you have them. We have mowed in the pitch dark and didnt even really noticed that the sun set an hour ago.
2. Runs very smooth, quick speed, turns are great.
3. Great engine (Kawasaki). Always starts right away.
4. I'd say this is one tiny step below a commercial mower. It's really a great machine. A few small updates from Cub Cadet and it would be a five star all day long.
Overall I'm pleased with the mower. I would not hesitate for a second to buy this. Bums me out they have lowered the price TWICE in 30 days since i bought it.
(what on earth does "smart attitude" mean on this review questionnaire?"
It is impossible to give a review with 86 dealers within a 100 mile distance and No on has one! The neighbor bought one 3 months ago. I fell in love with it. I currently own a John Deere that I have never been satisfied with. It apparently is worn out as it is always in need of parts and repair at 8years old!
Compared to other residential ZTR mowers this one is hard to beat. There other mowers that are built a little better, but compare the quality to price the ZT2 60 is hard to beat. Fast, cuts great, so far I see no need to mulch grass blades. Easy to clean, comfortable ride, easy to check hydraulic oil, easy to gas up, sporty looking and very practical design.
Serviceability of the Hydro Gear mower transmission, the large turf tires, and the 24 HP Kawasaki FR Series V-Twin engine was a deal maker. Oil changes are a breeze on the Kawasaki motor, everything is easy to get to compared to other brands.
If your shopping around for a ZTR make sure you compare apples to apples and compare what you get for what your wanting to spend.
I received this mower about a month ago to replace our old one that we had for several years that has seen better days. My husband is an over the road trucker and I take care of our home and yard. I was very nervous about getting this zero turn mower compared to our old one, which you just sit down on and operate with a steering wheel. I was so scared, it took me about 2 days of just driving it around the yard to ensure I was comfortable enough with it before trying to cut anything. I am very impressed with the design and convenience this mower offers and how self explanatory it is to operate, (directions by the key switch). I also love the fact that it has 3 blades instead of 2 to ensure even mowing and also this mower has a place to hook up your water hose to its pressure washing system that washes underneath the deck after you are finished mowing. How awesome is that!? It has a smooth ride and guys this mower even has a cup holder! You can easily get to the motor to check oil and do maintenance as needed. They thought of everything, you can even purchase attachements that hook up on the back of it for like mulching or bagging. I am in love with this mower and wish we would have gotten it sooner. I recommend this to anyone in the search for a new mower, you will not be disappointed!!
Pros:
Good match between speed of mower and cutting ability
Comfy
Nice cut with hi-lift blades
Easy access to everything requiring maintenance
Nice appearance
Easy to setup/adjust (comes with tool)
Cons:
Hitch plate keeps vibrating loose
Belt tensioner spring on top of deck vibrates loudly against deck
Summary:
I will put loctite on hitch plate bolts
I will wrap spring with rubber hose to prevent metal on metal contact
I will recommend mower to others; more so, if Cons are addressed
Also have 3 year old XT-1. Trouble free and great cut. Definitely give Cub Cadet a look.
This machine is amazing. It gives you a very wide cutting space. Easy to turn and maneuver. Driving arms are spaced out so you can easily sit in the comfortable padded seat. Easy to start. The changeover from driving to cutting is a bit stuttered but manageable. Bright yellow paint is easily visable . 3 speeds to do your cutting . This is a well made well built durable zero turn machine for large area and branch’s lands. This is a must have for any one who has a decent amount of land to cut.
I am Very Satisfied with my purchase. To be honest this is my first Zero Turn mower.
I am the type of person that if I am going to buy something I am going to do a lot of research before I make the purchase. I will spend more money on an item if I can justify that the extra cost will result in higher quality parts that I feel will increase the durability, ease of use, and longer life span.
Thanks to Cub Cadet and the ZT2 60 I feel that I got a machine that is built with all of those qualities without having to pay the extra cost.
After my research, I knew that I wanted a mower with commercial quality drive transaxles, a commercial quality motor with more power than I need, a foot pedal so I could quickly raise the deck when needed to keep the blades from hitting the ground or anything else that might be too high to get over, and I also wanted the wider rear tires.
The fabricated deck with the reinforced bottom edge, the adjustable seat with a high backrest and arm rests, and being able to mow in reverse are very nice extras that would be on my priority list now, after having used them.
I purchased the lots next to me which is why I needed more than a push mower. I was afraid the 60" deck might be a little overkill for my mowing needs, which are now just over an acre of some very uneven ground, many trees, and a lot of slopes that are steeper than what is considered acceptable in the owners manual.
I raked the leaves in my lot before I took possession of the new property. The new lots still had all of the leaves still there which have been buried under the snow all winter and then a lot of rain this spring and this mower was able to suck them all up off the ground with the deck height set at 3.5 inches. I did have to go over some of it a second time, only to better mulch the wet leaves, and I was impressed by how much suction and mulching capability it had. It made the leaves completely disappear so well, that it made think that I would not have had to rake my leaves if I had known how well this mower was going to work.
I really like my Cub Cadet ZT2 60 mower. I am glad that it does not have all of the extra plastic body parts. It is much easier to blow off the grass and dust, and easier to check and change the engine oil.
I absolutely love this mower! It’s handles great and turns so easily. It took more than a few minutes to figure out how everything worked but I got it. It’s a little confusing at first, because you have to remember how to make the blade go up and down as well as learning the handles. Once I took a couple runs in the yard I learned how to work it. Practice makes perfect. I would recommend this mower!
This is our third Cub Cadet mower. We have gotten over 10 years of heavy use out of each one. Wouldn't own another brand.
I got this mower very early in 2019 and had it sitting around for a while until I could try it. On large lawn with good drainage this mower is a MONSTER for speed and ease of use. But since my yard take a while during April and May to dry out I had a tough time with it. The small front wheels get stuck in soggy/boggy ground and the back tires with flat treads designed for not tearing up your grass in zero turns will spin easily and get stuck. Have a backup mower with large wheels standing by to pull yourself out. Now when it rains hard to use the old mower to do the soggy/boggy areas and do the rest with my ZT2 60 for it's exceptional speed and large fuel tank. Speaking of the fuel tank, it's large enough to do both the front and back yards of my 5 acre lot without refueling in between. I also have roots from trees that protrude from the ground which will destroy a mower's blades quickly, but I haven't hit any at all this year and found I can mow as low as 2 inches making the yard look well manicured like a golf course or park.
Man didn't Cub Cadet out do it with this series! This year’s Ultima series is the best around. I have the ZT2 60 and man she's a mean machine. This machine fears nothing and the strength and power it has is amazing. No matter if you have one or 5 acres if its flat land or rolling hills there’s no terrain will stop it (of course you can’t go straight down a steep slope.)
The frame work is amazing built steel tough and who doesn’t like to ride comfortable. Best comfortable in the market it has an 18-inch seat that doesn’t hurt the back! The deck is built to last if the zero turn I don't have the bagger but will probably be adding it. As of now it leaves so clump grass behind, but the bagger would come in handy for winter leaf’s!
Now comes the horse power and boy does she pack a punch or two! the powerful 24 Kawasaki engine provides enough power for this machine and you can never go wrong with a Kawasaki engine! This beauty is back by a 3-year unlimited hour warranty not many does that! Along with limited on the frame and fabricated deck but I’m sure this Cub you won’t ever use the warranty! She’s a beauty I now just need the bagger for my 60-inch deck, and she will be a complete piece of art!
I got the Cub Cadet TZ2 60 Zero turn mower to try and am so glad that I did. This thing is amazing! I had never used or ridden a zero turn before and at first was both nervous and skeptical at best about how hard it would be to get used to. Boy was I wrong! After going over the basic instructions and safety features I was off and running in no time at all. Within about 15 minutes I was riding and mowing like a pro! The mower was not only amazingly easy to get used to, It mowes GREAT as well. Your speed and turns are easily controlled with the simple push or pull on the controlls. It mowes great even at high speeds. In fact, my yard has honestly never looked better. I would highly recommend this mower to anyone who does their own yard maintenance!
Wow is an understatement with this mower. I thought a 60 was to big of a deck for my yard with a walnut grove but I was wrong it is like a balarina hippo but and nimble. To say I am happy with my purchase is an understatement. My whole neighborhood has mower envy. There is 1 down side if you enjoy spending time on your mower you will be upset on how fast it cuts. I just ride on it enjoy it more after cutting. Super comfy seat and amazing handles that are fully adjustable. Must have mower
