Wish I had bought one years ago. cut my mowing time by better than 1/2. Cut weed eating by 80%.
I have been looking at and wanting a larger mower for about a year after buying some additional property. I have a 42 inch which works fine and that I will continue to use for areas that the 54 inch deck can't go. Here are things I really like about this mower: deck adjustment, seat comfort, location of controls, the power to cut through thicker grass and not leave clumps, etc. The best part - the specs on the ZT1 are nearly identical if not exactly like another zero turn that I've been considering for $1000 less! So glad I found this and look forward to many good years of use.
ZT1 54 and I am blown away! My house lot took 20 min down from the hour it normally took on my old lawn tractor (it will get fast as I am still getting use to the steering). My big lot took 58 min down from 4+ hrs. I also saved gas too. It usually takes me 8+ gals of gas to mow both yards with to old lawn tractor. I might have used a little over 2 gal to do both yards today. Man, I'm impressed! This is time I get back that I can spend with my family and friends! I had wanted one of these mowers for years. Now, I just wish I had done it sooner!
To start off, my property has a bit over 2 acres to cut and it hadn't been maintained for a few years and was overgrown. Rough terrain, tall grass and small trees growing In the fields. Just cut the yard for the 5th time since getting this thing, and I couldn't be happier with my decision to get it. Ample power. No bogging down. Very Comfortable. Fun to drive. Great cut and suction power from the deck. For example, the first time I cut, and in a single pass, this thing sucked up and pulverized to powder the entire leaf bed that had accumulated from the previous couple of years and had laid there untouched. I mean bare clean dirt. In one pass! Now that it's cleaned up, I can cut the whole place in about an hour and it looks great! Performed a break in oil change and cleaned the air filter today. Thought about sharpening the blades because I've really given this thing a beating, but it's still cutting beautifully. You've got a Cub Cadet fan here for sure now. Very impressed with the performance of this thing. Time will tell on the durability side of things, but I'm pretty confident I'll still be enjoying this mower for years to come. Thanks!
I purchased the Cub Cadet ZT1 54" zero turn mower a few months ago because my 14 year old Cub Cadet GT1554 was finally reaching it's end of life. I mow 2 acres about 30 to 40 times per year, and over the last few months this zero turn has made the job faster than ever. With the traditional rider mower it took over 2 hours to complete the job during the growing seasons, with a lot of mowing time wasted on turns, having to go around obstacles multiple times, and slowing down considerably in the patches of thick grass. With the ZT1 I am able to get pretty much everything in a single pass and a quick spin around trees, and it has cut my mowing time down to about an hour and a half. Sitting in the seat upright is a huge relief rather than hunched over a steering wheel for the whole job. I am impressed with the quality of the mower, the strength of the fabricated deck, the even cut of the blades, and ease of access to all maintenance areas. I would highly recommend this to anyone that mows more than an acre and wants to do it efficiently with professional results.
The Cub Cadet ZT1 54 is a great lawnmower; so easy to use both my husband, and myself, can use it. The control levers adjust easily for any size driver; the control panel is slightly elevated and slanted toward driver for easy access; and the mower deck raises easily with the foot pedal and lowers back to same cutting position. To lock the blade in any position, raise with foot pedal, put the dial in desired position, and you're through. This mower easily mows our bumpy, hilly, tree covered three acre yard in a very short time. Cub Cadet has scored a home run with this machine.
I bought this mower and really like most of the features. It would be nice if it came with an hour meter. My big complaint is that when I went to shop for a few pair of replacement blades, I can not find them many places. When I find blades they are three times the price of any other 54" mower blades. I can't find any options on blades like the good old star design blades. The "S" design center hole is a BIG mistake. I ordered three replacement spindles with a star design for less than three replacement blades would cost. I will be using the smarter, more available, lower costing star design center blades on my new Cub Cadet mower. I will be throwing away the "S" design spindles. If I knew about the dumb "S" center hole blades I would not have bought this mower. I think you can still get this mower with a star center hole blade design. Other than that, this is a good, strong, fast mower and I think it will last a long time.
Living out in the country and having the amount of land of we have and using a small riding mower to going to this awesome machine, why didn't I get one sooner. Not only do you get to mow in half of time due to the 54" blade which is also very easy to adjust with the ball level but you can go from slow to fast and wow is it fast and mows just as good with each speed. The seat so is comfy and I love the cup holder. It has a heavy duty mat which is so easy to clean if you get mud, wet grass, etc on it. The arms that you use to control the mower are set just right that when your arms are on them they are comfortable. Not one time did I feel unsafe using this awesome mower, even going on a incline.
The mower arrived in a timely manner to my house. The initial setup on the mower was easy. I added gas and it started right up. The ZT1 54” worked great on my yard, and so far have no complaints.
This is the best mower I've ever ridden, it has great features, cuts smooth and it's hard to bog it down. I especially love that you can spray the blades off with water to keep them clean and sharp. Would definitely recommend!
Purchased from an independent Cub Cadet dealer (Madson's Service in St. Nazianz, WI) who was a pleasure to deal with and very knowledgeable. Machine has already exceeded my expectations after the 2nd full mowing. Fast, maneuverable, doesn't tear up the turf even with agressive turns, nimble around trees and other landscaping features. Low profile makes it feel very stable. Styling turns many heads of those driving by. Reliable Kohler engine delivers excellent, smooth power. Can't go wrong. Using to cut just over 3 acres of relatively flat hobby-farm property with 30+ trees, two barns, flower beds, etc. Has cut my mowing time in half from my JD 318 tractor I used previously.
After a few weeks using it and doing another review. It still is the best machine that I have ever owned for mowing. I love the way it cuts and it makes mowing much more of a pleasure. I thought about getting the ZT2 with the serviceable transmissions, wider tires but I have owned other mowers that had the non-serviceable grade transmissions, like this one, that lasted many years so I figure this machine will last a long time also.
Have had for 2 months now. It has cut my mowing time in half. I mowed appx 2-1/2 acres of land. Bagger works great. Wish I had invested earlier.
I have always enjoyed mowing grass, but the Cub Cadet ZT1 is a huge game changer for me! First zero turn mower I’ve ever ridden or worked. This is the best mower I've ever ridden, it has great features, cuts smooth and it's hard to bog it down. I especially love that you can spray the blades off with water to keep them clean and sharp but attaching the hose and letting it go to keep my mower clean! I love the ease and precision of being able to mow our five acre uneven terrain yard in so little time! Looking forward to mowing every time. Cub Cadet makes a great zero turn mower! Being a female the ease and build makes it fun and easy to control! I sure don’t miss my riding mower!
I bought this mower to replace an older Cub Cadet 42” ZTR with a 17 HP engine and the transition was seamless. Crawling under my old mower to pop the belt back on is a thing of the past with the access panel! The panel also makes it easy to keep the top of the deck clean of grass and debris. Pre-installed lights for if the sun goes down a little too fast for you to finish your yard. The square frame makes this mower solid! Smooth acceleration and flawless cuts with the ability to mow in reverse as well! Amazing mower! Felt like Christmas opening my crate!
This my third cub cadet zero turn. My first is a 2005 and I still own all 3. This new one is the top of line zero turns with all access to many different parts of the mower. Two things that concern me is that front axle doesn't pivot like my other 2 and the rollers on the deck are just in the front of the deck. I love the way you set the deck level and settings of the control arms. The seat is very comfortable. I like the ignition with throttle and blade engage all on one side. Overall the mower is a 5 star.
I took delivery of my Cub Cadet several weeks ago at Peach Outdoors in Clanton, AL. I had never driven a zero turn mower but handling is a breeze. The 54" cutting deck makes short work of my three acres, even spots where the grass had grown in thick clumps. It never bogged down, and the headlights mean I can cut even when it gets a bit darker in the evenings when its cooler. This is an extremely well built mower and extra durable on my hilly, uneven yard! Its very steady and safe. I am in love with this mower! Not only is it a workhorse but FUN to drive! Makes cutting grass a true pleasure!
We actually bought the first of these that our Tractor Supply has sold, and it’s our wonderful experience with this mower that helps them sell more of them! It does such a terrific job on our 3+ acres and does the job quickly and comfortably!!! It is just an overall great mower. We have and will continue to recommend this mower to anyone looking for one.
Great mower, great quality. Buying something so expensive can be daunting but it was worth every penny!
My first day on my machine and I've had 2 others before this cub cadet has made all the upgrades I used to complain about then some the frame and front spindles have been beefed up as well as the fabricated steel deck , the seat is great they added deck access from the top of the deck and headlights couple that with a terrific Kohler motor and you have the best bang for your buck kind of mower. Congratulations cub cadet you have outdone yourselves with this machine I purchased this over a gutless bad boy lawnmower that is made in Arkansas where I live.
I've had this mower for over a month and have 10hrs on it. It's not a commercial grade however it makes short work of my 2 acre yard. For the price and what it is you can't beat it. Absolutely love it. I have used many commercial zero turns and I can't see spending double. If you have a business then spend the extra but if you are just using it in your yard get you a new zt1....they are pretty awesome :)
Bought this mower last month, my craftsman died, nearing the end of the season still needed something. been looking at the cub's for a yr now. I mow between 3-4.5 acres, alot is uneven terain and hilly. does a great job, control, precision, ability, and fuel economy all very acceptable. I have only mowed a little with this, however it seems very well put together, and more than capable of doing everything required for my needs. Only thing not 100% is the hr. meter gage hasnt worked since I picked it up. will visit shop where I bought it, and get that rectified. onyl gotten it stuck 1 time, and the ditch I was trying to get into was pretty ugly-can't blame that on the mower. can only give it a 4 due to hour meter not working-- that's a quality issue
I got a Cub Cadet Ultima ZT1 54' zero turn lawn mower and just let me say this "I LOVE IT!!!!" I will never go back to the tractor type lawn mowers. I am a 50 year old woman who has always loved mowing the yard and being outside and I really didn't think I would be able to use a zero turn lawn mower or that I would even like it but boy was I wrong. It takes some getting used to but its so easy to maneuver that it makes my old lawn mower seem like some kind of ancient relic that shouldn't even be around any longer. Also a big PRO point for this lawn mower is my husband is disabled (back problems, leg problems, just in general can't really get around good) but he was able to mow the yard for the 1st time in over 10 years on this mower. It didn't hurt him getting on or off and riding was smooth and didn't upset his back and legs. He was like a kid on a new bike. I now have unwanted help with my yard mowing but that's OK, I can share. Another PRO point- I get my yard done in a little over half the time (1.2 acres) but this deck is much bigger than my previous. Another PRO point- I have mowed twice (and played a couple times) and still have well over a half tank of gas so it doesn't seem to be using nearly as much gas as the old clunker did. So what I have learned is these lawn mowers are not just for professional landscapers or people who mow yards as a side job - they are for all of us! I will never go back to the regular tractor lawn mower because I am having way too much fun with this one. So anyone out there who is questioning whether or not to get one - go ahead - you going to love this thing! More PROS: easy to crank, easy to control your deck height, push button to turn on the blades, comfortable seat, zero turn really means zero turn, I could go on and on and on.
Before this mower I had a John deer. This is my first zero turn and there was a bit of a learning curve but I can tell you it's one awesome machine! It cuts your time on mowing in half! We have trees that line our driveway that we had to push mow but not anymore this thing zips right around them. It's much more fun to drive too cub cadet you rock! This thing has a lot of pros but I can't think of any cons, I love it and I know you will too!
I purchased the Optima zt1 54” in April 2019. My yard is 4 acres and I set the deck to 3.5 inches, it mows it down in exactly 3 1/2 hours. When My conventional mower usually took around 8 1/2 to 9 hours. I have 16 hours on the machine and not one bad thing to say about it
